Get into the Independence day mood by whipping up these delicious, healthy dips that you can have with everything from fresh cut fruits and potato chips to cookies and brownies!

  • Maple syrup dip –
Heat 1 cup maple syrup on a low flame until it starts to simmer. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Take it off the heat and put it in a heat proof jar. Add 1 cinnamon stick and 2 pieces of star anise. Let the spices steep for 15 minutes. Sieve the spices out and your spiced maple syrup is ready. This dip goes well with brownies, marshmallows and fresh cut fruits like apples, pears and pineapple.

  • Sour cream dip –
In a bowl, put 45 ml of maple syrup and add 180 ml sour cream to it. Stir until you have obtained a smooth mixture. Sprinkle cinnamon powder and refrigerate until serving time. Try it with fresh fruits like apples, pears, pineapple, peaches, strawberries, oranges or with cookies and cake.

  • Parsley dip –
In a bowl, combine 250 ml mayonnaise with 125 ml thick natural yoghurt. Add to it, 60 ml maple syrup, 2 tbsp Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp chopped parsley, 3 tbsp chopped fresh chives, 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil, 3 crushed garlic cloves, salt and pepper to taste. Let rest for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to blend prior to serving. Have this dip with crackers, nachos, wafers or chips.
